Ask Carley: What’s a tiered reception?

Q: What on Earth is a tiered reception? I keep hearing that I shouldn’t do it, but I don’t even know what the heck it is.

A: Couples who have tiered receptions invite some guests to both the ceremony and entire reception, and then others to the ceremony and the latter portion of the party.

Our opinion? It’s a bad idea. Anyone invited to the wedding should be asked to attend both your ceremony and your reception in its entirety. By having a tiered reception, you’re basically saying to certain guests, “You’re not important enough for me to feed you.

Elbo articulated hollower

I just set up this new tool and hollowed this piece of firewood( 85w ) to 6 inches. Very easy to use. (I have hollowed by hand, so I do know how) Anyone who has a modest amount of turning experience will find it relatively easy to do. I got this from Packard Woodworks and I believe it is the least expensive on the market at this time. The bad? One of the grub screws was already stripped before I even put it together. One of the long bolts that clamp the holder on the quill, was shaped like a horseshoe. What the heck? How does that get thru a manufacturers check while packing?
