Home Renovations: Which Projects Should Come First?

Posted by Brodie Cairnduff under House Remodeling Tips

Home renovations, and deciding which projects to take on first, can be quite overwhelming. A lot of this has to do with the priorities of the specific homeowners in question. Some are thinking about comfort. Others are more concerned with style, and the feelings that can be experienced when you’ve transformed the house you bought into the home you’ve always dreamt about. It’s a pretty wide landscape when it comes to this kind of thing, and a lot can vary from person to person.

Another important aspect is, of course, budget, and the art of laying down an initial investment for a greater future return. In the end, it’s about an investment that you, the homeowner, has made when you purchased your home.  Home renovations in this respect is aligned with the goal of increasing the value of that investment.

So, with this in mind, where do you start? What home renovations projects should you take on, during this time when limited budgets and maximizing property value are the most common denominators?

Take a look at this graphic that breaks down a few of the categories that make one’s home more saleable, even if selling a home isn’t what’s immediately on the cards.

Hopefully, this graphic will enable another important aspect of homeownership and home renovation; the ever-important sense of balance that helps to ensure that you own your home, and your home doesn’t own you.

Managing priorities isn’t just about your financial budget; it’s about your physical and emotional budget, too. If you’ve decided to hire a professional, or to take on some of the work yourself, you’re spending considerable amounts of time and energy. You only have so much of both. And you can’t forget, through all of your efforts in renovating a home, to actually be happy in your home in the present, even while you’re increasing its future value.
