I’m gaga over this new project Fresh Face Linda Facci sent my way this week. Inspired by tassels on graduation caps (congrats, grads!), she came up with this super-easy DIY leather tassel necklace project.
I’ve always wanted to design and make my own jewelry — this project might be my first try!
WHAT YOU NEED:
- 5 pieces of leather, 1/8″ wide and 7″ long
- Scissors
- 16″ of 26g silver wire
- Wire snips
- Decorative beads
- Long necklace chain
WHAT YOU DO:
Step 1: Cut 5 pieces of leather 1/8″ wide and 7″ long:
Step 2: Twist about 16″ of 26g silver wire around the middle of your leather strands, leaving an inch of wire loose to make a loop. Fold your leather strands in half:
Step 3: Make a loop with your inch of wire and twist around the base of loop and snip. Tightly wrap the excess wire around your strands and snip:
Step 4: Trim bottom of tassel:
Step 5: Insert a 3-inch piece of wire through silver tassel loop, then insert both pieces of wire through a decorative bead:
Step 6: Add another bead, make loop and snip. Add chain and more decorative beads:

You’re done! Maybe this will be the beginning of my jewelry-making career …
What crafty skill do you wish you had?
