built-in bookshelves

Posted by Blake Stoate under Home Improvement Information

Folks, I don’t think I’m fooling myself when I say that I’m fairly easy to please. My idea of a perfect evening is a cozy chair, a good book and perhaps a glass (or two) of wine. But lately, my love of reading has become something of a burden, if only because my book-storage space consists of this:

My ‘bookshelf.’ Cue laughter.

I have books stacked on top of books, books stacked behind books, and literally boxes of books that I have nowhere to put. I have one other “bookshelf” that’s attached to the wall next to my bed…

Yes, those are trashy romance novels.

…but that’s quickly filling up, too. Curse you, tiny apartment! So, the way I see it, I have two options.

1) I can move to a larger apartment and buy myself a larger bookcase.

2) I can find a millionaire to marry who will put me and my books up in style. I’m thinking of something like this:

Built-in bookshelves would probably be the culmination of my every dream, to not exaggerate at all. Seriously though, how awesome are those shelves? I love the effect of floor-to-ceiling bookshelves.

And how amazing is this diagonal bookcase? It’s not only floor-to-ceiling, but it spans the length of the room. I’m swooning. More realistically, though:

I’m obsessed with these clever corner shelves that really make the most of a small space. (And how cool does that  orange look against those gray walls? Love that room!)

Here are some great examples of built-in shelving that takes advantage of that over-the-door space that I know I definitely usually forget about.

Le sigh. As there aren’t many cheap apartments or wealthy men on the market right now, I’m not sure what to do about my book-storage situation, guys. If you have any recommendations for space-saving book shelves, please let me know! And millionaires, I’d love to hear from you, too!
